Los Angeles Dodgers History

Founded in Brooklyn, New York, in 1883, the franchise competed under several names, including the Brooklyn Grays, Bridegrooms, Superbas and Robins, before officially adopting the Dodgers name in 1932. 

The Dodgers were hugely competitive throughout their history, winning National League Pennants in the late 1800s and multiple times in the early-mid 1900s. The team produced numerous Hall of Famers, most famously, Jackie Robinson. Debuting in 1947, Jackie Robinson was the first African American player in modern Major League Baseball and earned himself Rookie of the Year.  

In 1957, the Dodgers moved to Los Angeles, marking the end of their time in Brooklyn. This was the start of what is today one of the biggest franchises in world sport, The Los Angeles Dodgers. 

Since then, the Dodgers have transformed into a modern baseball powerhouse, utilising local talent as well as some of the sport’s biggest stars. With multiple World Series victories and a reputation for consistently challenging for championships, they've become one of the most dominant and recognisable teams in global sport.
